To finish darks were added to the cliff face and foreground leaving the odd highlight. Including figures and a few birds always adds further interest, particularly where they are outlined in white as they catch a bit of light. Care is needed to avoid the foreground darks becoming too solid so that they lose transparency. This demonstrates that simple plein air work can be a starting point for finished artwork rather than relying on a photograph.
