Initial sketchbook ideas and tone layout.

To start the sketch was done in pencil followed by coloured pencil. This was used for convenience to give some idea of atmosphere and distance. The original photograph showed nothing in the middle foreground and two ideas were considered. A final decision was put off until painting. A couple of ink sketches helped to work out tonal relationships.
